Reham Nayyar Khan is a well known Pakistani journalist. She is the niece of Abdul Hakeem Khan who was a former governor of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and former Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court. She married Ejaz Rehman, her first cousin and British psychiatrist when she was 19. Following their divorce, Khan began working as a broadcast journalist. She has three children who have lived with her since the divorce.
In January 2015, Imran Khan confirmed his marriage to Reham which ended on 30 October 2015 in a divorce. Reham Khan's book is the damning indictment of Imran's character, says journalist after the interview. Most of the pages of the book cover the period during which she remained Khan's wife. This is an interesting topic, people want to know it, so this book is gaining popularity among the readers. A famous anchor asked the Reham Khan whether she was satisfied with the contents of the book knowing that she will be answerable to Allah the woman said she was satisfied with whatever she has penned.
This story touches on sensitive issues, both political and social, and the author has had to resist extreme bullying, harassment and life-threatening situations to bring it to you. There are powerful people who do not want you to hear it – because it shows all too clearly that there are those in political office in Pakistan, and all over the world, who are not driven by a desire to serve the public but rather by venal ambition.
The miracle of Reham’s story is that throughout it all, this housewife-turned-journalist-turned-social-activist has managed to balance her work with her primary role of being a mother. She shows us the challenges that a woman can overcome when she wants more from life than tradition expects of her.
This is a story of survival with a smile.
